History of World Tourism Day

Since 1980, World Tourism Day is celebrated annually around the world on 27 September. UNWTO celebrated the first World Tourism Day as an international celebration on 27 September 1980.

At the October session of World Tourism Day, 1997 in Istanbul, Turkey, the United Nations World Trade Organization General Assembly decided to nominate a host country each year to act as a participant during World Tourism Day. The celebration of World Tourism Day 2019 was in Delhi, India.
