All the passengers of the country are being given free travel insurance of up to Rs 50 lakh on booking flight tickets from the IRCTC website of Indian Railways . That is, if you book flight tickets through the official website or mobile application of IRCTC, then you get the facility of free insurance up to Rs 50 lakh.
The e-ticketing and catering arm of Indian Railways is offering travel insurance option in association with Bharti AXA General Insurance Company. Every passenger booking a ticket through IRCTC Air website or app will be eligible for this free insurance. This insurance is available for both domestic and international travelers. If you have a flight ticket only then you can claim Rs 50 lakh under this insurance in case of an accident.
According to IRCTC, the benefit of insurance will be available only to those passengers who suffer accidental death and complete or permanent disability in an accident. Because only when this situation comes, you will be provided security. This travel insurance cover is valid for both one side trip and round trip. In case of sudden death, permanent disability or permanent partial disability, a maximum cover of Rs 50 lakh will be provided.
This facility is also available with the ticket
Apart from the sudden death coverage, IRCTC also offers a cover of up to Rs.3,000 for loss of check-in baggage on domestic flights. For international flights, insurance of up to $250 (Rs 20,590) will be provided in case of loss of checked-in baggage. Apart from this, the insurance premium will be borne by IRCTC to protect its passengers from any untoward incident during the journey. In this you will not have to pay premium.
These companies charge premium
Explain that other travel portals like MakeMyTrip, Yatra, ClearTrip, Red Bus, usually charge up to Rs 200-250 for air travel insurance. But the main objective of IRCTC is to provide hassle free travel experience to the customers. That’s why IRCTC is providing this insurance free of cost and is not taking any charge from any passenger.
10 lakh insurance on booking train tickets
IRCTC is also providing insurance cover of up to Rs 10 lakh at almost zero premium of 49 paise on booking train tickets from the website. According to the IRCTC website, the policy covers death, total disability and hospitalization expenses for injury and transportation of dead body after a train accident or untoward incident.
