Central India is the most popular wildlife circuit in the country, say authors David Raju and Surya Ramachandran. Their new book Photographic Field Guide – Wildlife in Central India, is a good book buddy to take on your travels to the region. A diverse eco system and 22 protected parks including the top Ranthambore, Bandhavgarh and Kanha Tiger Reserves and other hilly terrains are home to many species of animals, birds, butterflies, reptiles, amphibians. Banded Krait is a venomous snake, found in Kanha National Park, Bhoramdeo Wildlife Sanctuary and Achanakmar-Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve.
Migrating from the Himalayas, the bar-headed goose is found in water bodies especially in Satpura.
The resident bird, black bellied tern, that can usually be seen in flocks or pairs are best spotted at Satpura and Chambal.
Central India’s star attraction is the tiger. It’s a big draw for travellers during the season (October to June).
